6 tips for limiting liability for violence and crowd control

Jim Juliano - Spring 2015

  • Install a phone number for fans to call or text to report unruly behavior and make sure fans are aware of this service.
  • Instruct vendors to cut off patrons who are visibly intoxicated, and cease all alcohol sales sufficiently before the game is over.
  • Place undercover officers and security officials in home or opposing team gear to catch unruly fans.
  • Properly evaluate, increase and/or fix security issues, perhaps retaining outside consultation.
  • Designate a safe area of the stadium where security officials can escort offending fans to a taxi or their vehicle.
  • Impose strict guidelines or require conduct classes for re-admitting fans caught behaving in an unruly or utterly inappropriate manner.
